Infrastructure - Bathroom & Changing Room Construction

The Problem

In rural Uttarakhand, school children are forced to defecate in the open due to the lack of clean and functional toilet facilities. This is not only unhygienic but also humiliating and unsafe, especially for girls during menstruation.

This lack of basic sanitation directly contributes to absenteeism, school dropouts, and limits educational opportunities. Open defecation contaminates surrounding areas, including food and water sources, which increases the risk of illness for children and their families, adding financial burdens in the form of medical expenses and further straining already limited household resources. Beyond physical health, the absence of safe toilets impacts children’s emotional well-being, confidence, and social development.

Our Solution

Access to proper sanitation not only ensures hygiene and safety but also fosters privacy, dignity, and self-respect.

AITYS is committed to providing safe, hygienic toilets so that all children can attend school confidently and enjoy their right to education. By ensuring dignity and menstrual privacy for girls, as well as comfort and personal space for boys, we help create an environment where every child feels respected.

Our Impact

These initiatives promote school attendance, prevent illness, and uplift communities.

By building these habits from childhood, children and families improve health, education, and well-being, while supporting India’s Swachh Bharat Mission, the nationwide initiative for safe sanitation. Through these efforts, AITYS is also working to bridge the sanitation gap between urban and rural schools, ensuring equal opportunities for all.
